Because Yoga works on so many different levels, it has great potential as an effective therapy for conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioural challenges, and other social, emotional and mental health issues. By stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, increasing brain GABA levels and down-regulating the sympathetic nervous system Yoga helps develop the ability to relax and self-soothe and improves mood as well as self-regulation, emotionally, mentally and physically. Mindfulness has been shown to change neural pathways and decrease the activity of the limbic system which is overactive in people suffering from anxiety and PTSD.
